Recreation In The North Cascades

Calling all people who love to hike, camp, climb, raft and commune with nature

The North Cascades boast some of the best wild-land recreation in the Pacific Northwest – if not the world.

Long known as the extreme climber’s climbing destination, the area can challenge the technical skills of even the most experienced rock climbers, bushwhackers and hard bodies. It’s also a destination for families looking for quiet, little-travelled places to pass on a delight in nature to the next generation. Picnic next to a hundred streams, lulled by the sound of rushing water, or explore meandering trails to mountain lakes and huckleberry fields.

If you’ve been wondering what happened to that wild part of you, it’s right here.

Hike of the Month

Stuart Lake, Alpine Lakes Wilderness

Stuart Lake

The hike to Stuart Lake is one of the more popular in all of the North Cascades, and with good reason. The trail starts out following Mountaineer Creek, climbing steadily uphill. After a little more than a half-mile, you enter in to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
