Top Chelan County mountain bike rides: Right in our backyard

When it comes to mountain biking, Chelan County is home to some of the best — and most diverse — in the state.

Based on interviews with local mountain bikers, here are three rides to check out:

Canyon Number Two
Based around the Stairway to Heaven trail, this area near Wenatchee has been expanded in recent years with three new routes — the Bermuda Triangle, Road Rage, and Waterslide.

Mountain Loop Highway Closed Throughout August, September

Mountain Loop Highway Closed

Everett, Wash. July 21, 2010— The Forest Service is closing Mountain Loop Highway (Forest Service road 20) to traffic through August at various locations to install culverts. Construction will close the road 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest spans more than 4 million acres from the Pasayten Wilderness along the Canadian border to the Goat Rocks Wilderness south of Mt. Rainier. Over the past several years, the U.S. Forest Service has been working to update the forest plan for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, which will guide its management for the next 15 years.
