My North Cascades Story - Wild Sky Wilderness Area

By Rick Larsen, U.S. Representative for Washington's 2nd District

This spring, I joined Wild Sky supporters in Index to celebrate the first new wilderness area in Washington state in more than twenty years.

The Wild Sky Wilderness Area is unique, protecting 106,577 acres of the most pristine forests and streams in Northwest Washington and providing a clean, accessible place to hunt, fish and hike. Wild Sky will bring wilderness closer to our communities and benefit local families and businesses for generations to come.

Working together, a diverse group of allies made the Wild Sky Wilderness a reality. Over the past seven years, Senator Murray and I collaborated with local citizens, held countless community meetings, and compromised when it was the right thing to do.

Thanks to all of you who helped make the Wild Sky Wilderness a reality for my sons and for future generations to enjoy.

In the words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - "Wild at last, wild at last, thank God Almighty, it's wild at last."
