By Patty Murray, United States Senator
It is hard to believe that on May 8th we will be celebrating the one year anniversary of the Wild Sky Wilderness, being signed into law. I think this is a great time to reflect on the hard work, tenacity, and dedication it required to get from the proposal being a dream of local activists to the first new wilderness in Washington state in over twenty years.
Congressman Larsen and I worked closely with many of you in the conservation community to make Wild Sky a reality, and I am grateful to you for all of the years spent advocating for this special place in the North Cascades. Throughout the process, I learned an enormous amount, not only about the Wild Sky area, but also about the tremendous resolve of this project's dedicated partners.
As we move forward, and continue working to protect Washington state's pristine landscape, we should remember the lessons we learned from Wild Sky. Together, we protected an amazing area for our grandchildren and their grandchildren. I can't think of a better gift to give future generations.
