Get out in the Wild Sky Wilderness, Washington's first new National Forest Wilderness Area in 20 years! The Barclay Lake Trail is a perfect place for families with kids as well as adults of all ages. Not only does the trail offer a gentle grade but stunning views of the neighboring Mt. Baring and Merchant Peak as well as lush old-growth. Hikers are also treated with beautiful views at their feet! Trillium, wood violets, bleeding heart, salmonberry, and deer ferns grow along much of the trail. Campsites are plentiful near Barclay Lake, making it a wonderful place for first-time backpackers or those looking for an easy and relaxing trip.
Those looking for more adventure, more wildflowers and a steeper grade should continue on the trail for Eagle Lake. This trail is much steeper, gaining 1400 feet of elevation in approximately 3/4 of a mile. It is well worth the climb to a spectacular, pristine lake as well as an abandoned cabin on the shore.
